BURL BILBRO, the great tramp, is dead, the event on which himself and the country are to congratulated having occurred at a Madisonville livery stable on the 13th.  For more than forty years he had been a tramp and beggar of the most worthless sort and was known far and wide for his utter improvidence and his propensity for rhyming.  He lived to be 70 years old by his wits and it is almost unnecessary to add that he was nearly without living.  He was given a decent burial by a gentleman who will bring in a bill at the next court of claims of Hopkins County for a coffin and burial clothes for a pauper. Such is the end of such life and fitting tribute in it to oblivion.

.........................

Died at his home on the Hartford and Hardinsburg Road, near the Breckenridge County line, on July 20, 1883, WILLIAM WHITTINGHILL, in the 74th year of his age.  Mr. Whittinghill was born on what is now known as the Old Whittinghill farm, two and one half miles east of Fordsville, January 28, 1807.  His father, John Whittinghill, settled on his farm October 15, 1807.  He established a camp till he could build a cabin for a dwelling and for want of clear land to raise a crop of corn on he rented some fields near Barrett’s Ferry, a distance of seven or eight miles from his camp.  This Christian gentleman died on this farm September 27, 1846 in the 70th year of age.  William Whittinghill was married three times; his first and second wives were sisters and daughters of  SAMUEL and ELIZA WILSON.  His third wife was the widow FOWLER, widow of  BENJAMIN F. FOWLER; she was originally MISS MARY ANN ROBERTSON.  She was married to Mr. Whittinghill on JANUARY 28, 1854.  With the exception of four years living in Illinois, Mr. Whittinghill lived in Ohio County.  For the last twenty-seven hears he has been a member of the Baptist Church.  He leaves his wife, now in the 68th year of her age, also two sons and two daughters.  The daughters are by his second marriage and are MRS. ELIZABETH GABERT, wife of  ALBERT GABERT, living near PHILPOT, DAVIESS CO., and MRS. ELIZA TRUMAN, wife of  EDWARD W. TRUMAN, living near FORDSVILLE.  The two sons are WILLIAM L., living near his father’s farm, and THOMAS L., now living on his father’s farm.  He was buried on the farm of his brother PETER T. WHITTINHILL.

NOTE; JULY 20, 1883 could not be the death date, since this issue of the paper is the 18th... in going back in the notes found his death notice listed on  JULY 11TH, with death date of the 7th.

I. ROWE in OHIO CO., KY. on JULY 11, 1883.

ROBERT ROWE, who was born in Ohio County, Kentucky on September 9, 1807, died at the home of his son-in-law REV. R. P. TAYLOR, in the north part of this county on NOVEMBER 12, 1883; aged 76 years, 2 months, 3 days. During his last afflictions the deceased gave unmistakable evidence of readiness to depart and with Christ.  Bro. Rowe was not a church member; still his life was free from many of these blemishes often seen in characters of proposed saints.  None knew him but to love him.  Four children: 2 sons and 2 daughters bow beneath their sorrow and mourn that their father is with them no more.  A lost relative and friends in his native county will be saddened by the news that UNCLE BOB ROWE, as he was called, is dead.  His remains were taken back to Ohio County and in the church yard at Waltons’s Creek Baptist church he will sleep beside his companion of his pride and joy who several years ago entered upon her rest.

                                                                                     W. C. TAYLOR

CENTERTOWN NEW:   UNCLE BOB ROWE, died at the home of his daughter in GRAVES COUNTY on the 12th.  His remains were brought home and interred at Walton’s Creek cemetery.  The large concourse of friends and relative that assembled at his burial attest the high esteem in which he was held by all who knew him, for he was only to be known to be admired.  Two of his grandsons,  Judson and Alfred Taylor,  accompanied his remains to his old home here.  They did remain with relatives in this vicinity.

NOTE;  The death dates are as they were in the news items, they appeared on the same page of this issue.

At this point I think R. P. TAYLOR is RICHARD PREVETTE TAYLOR either the son or grandson of JOSEPH TAYLOR of the BEAVER DAM area, who was of the Moses TAYLOR LINE.
